On this website you will find material related to Photography and Radio, both
lifelong interests. This website's name is derived from my
Amateur Radio callsign N4FXC.

Photography is a primary interest and I have been taking photos since my teenage years. Originally, I used
simple film cameras, eventually graduating to 35mm slr cameras in the late 1960s. In the mid to late 1990s, I bought
my first digital camera and have been using digital cameras since then. Today, my camera is the Canon 450D digital slr
which is also called the Canon EOS Rebel XSI. I am an avid member of the
Nature Photographers Network (NPN).

Radio is another major interest and I have been associated with radio in one way or another since I was a young
child. As a child, I can remember tuning around on the AM band listening for distant stations. In my early teens, my
father bought and built a shortwave radio kit. I listened to this radio and enjoyed hearing shortwave broadcasts from
distant locations around the world. Eventually, I concentrated on listening to AM radio and picked up stations from around
the United States and other areas of the world when 'conditions' were right.

In my late teens, my interest in transmitting was strong. I needed to learn the Morse Code as well as basic electronics
theory in order to take the test to become a licensed Novice class Amateur Radio Operator. I passed the test and soon received
my first callsign, WN4OXB.
